Payment terms in international trade and the payment preferences of the companies which are on imports and exports in Eskişehir Industrial Zone

Trade does exist with different names and varieties since the beginning of human history. International trade is getting more and more important through all the technological developments alongside with the globalization which is a result of developments in terms of sociologic, politic and economic events in the world, while becoming more complicated on the other hand. In order to prevent complexity of international foreign trade and enable the trading partners to continue their trade with more fluency and confidence, the issue of payment is crusial in order to ensure the increased sustainability of international trade in terms of all buyers and sellers. For this reason, the trade relations of the countries with each other must be put in specific conditions, which makes the trade in control of the global economy better. In this study are mentioned the foreign trade from general perspective and the payment terms were examined in order for decisions to be made more heedful. In the first section which consists of three, international or foreign trade and its concepts which would make the understanding better during the decision were mentioned. For the following of this very section, import and export transactions and and the arrangements were mentioned according to the types and regulations of foreign trade. The second section includes the payment terms examined by detailed in both respects of buyer and seller. The importance of trading partners and their liabilites in accordance with the payment terms has been explained and the risks and benefits were mentioned regarding the payment terms. In the third and final section, analysis of the payment preferences of the companies which are active on importing and exporting in Industrial Zone of Eskişehir was conducted by using the questionnaire method. Results from analysis were interpreted and suggestions were made in order for Eskişehir foreign trade companies to enable to continue their foreign trade activities more effectively and consciously.
