The level of impairments in interpersonal functioning of patient with diagnosis of personality disorder according to DSM 5

In this study, determining empathy skills and intimacy levels of patients with personality disorder were targeted in order to evaluate their impairment of interpersonal functioning. Thus, functionality in Turkey sample of interpersonal dimesions of diagnostic criteria A within the scope of "Alternative DSM-5 Model of Personality Disorders" in DSM-5 investigation required fields were tested. In a sample group of 118 persons receiving and not receiving diagnosis personality disorder was established. 50 male and 68 female participants with mean age is 34.86 ( 1.09). As data collection tools, Demographic Information Form, Empathic Tendency Scale, Empathic Skills Scale Form B, Close Relationships Experiences Inventory II, the MMPI L, F, K Validity Scale Questionnaire, the SCID-II and DSM-5 Levels of Personality Functioning Scale were used. Among 53 persons with personality disorder and 65 persons with no personality disorder according to Alternative DSM-5 Model, significant differences were detected in terms of the level of empathy and intimacy. Diagnosed group's level of interpersonal functionality deficiency is higher than undiagnosed group. In terms of providing prior knowledge for evaluating interpersonal functioning of EEO and YIYE II have been shown to be useful. In addition, DSM-5 Levels of Personality Functioning Scale has been to be a valid tool in assessment of personality disorder and personality functioning. Results were discussed in the light of the relevant literature; the strengths and limitations of the study were considered; suggestions were made for future research.
