Abstract (EN)
Objective: Infection related autoimmunity in neuropsychiatric disorders called as PANDAS/PANS, is thought to be associated with immune dysfunction. In this study, we aimed to research phenotypic traits and PANDAS comorbidity, familial autoimmunity and humoral immunity in pediatric patients with OCRD. Material and Methods: The study included, 58 patients and 82 healthy child and adolescent of 6-18 years of age who admitted to the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Outpatient Clinic. A structured clinical interview, Kiddie Schedule for Affective Disorders and Schizophrenia for School Aged Children,Present and Lifetime Version (K-SADS-PL) was applied to the participants. The severity of OCD symptoms was assessed using the Children's Yale Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale (CY-BOCS). The demographic information, history of immunity-infection, familial autoimmune diseases were recorded. Serum samples were collected from all participants to determine serum IgA, ANA, ASO and CRP. SPSS v.16.0 for Windows was used for statistical analysis. Results: The levels of serum IgA were significantly lower in the OCD-spectrum-other than those with OCD and healthy control subjects. ( 2239,0±1373,0; 2593,34 ±1228,18 µg/ml; 2945 ±1299,01; p=0,054) The mean serum IgA levels were lower in PANDAS patients compared with control subjects (2423,1±1316,6 µg/ml ; 2945,4±1299,0 µg/ml; p = 0,089). The mean ASO titers were significantly higher in those with PANDAS group than control groups.(336,2±107,1 IU/ml; 71,9±52,8 IU/ml, p=0,0000) Conclusions: In this study, we demonstrated that the patients with OCD spectrum –others have lower serum IgA compared with OCD and control subjects. Our study is important for being one of the preliminary studies, which support the association between OCRD and humoral immunity.
