Analysis of the Dune film in the context of the monomyth theory

Cinema is primarily a visual art form; however, in constructing its narratives, it frequently draws upon themes rooted in folklore, such as shared human symbols, mythologies, and archetypes. Therefore, when analyzing a film's narrative structure, it is beneficial to employ literary theories, particularly those derived from folk literature. In this thesis, we examine the films Dune: Part One and Dune: Part Two, adapted from Frank Herbert's Dune novel series, through the lens of Joseph Campbell's "Monomyth Theory." Additionally, we analyze the protagonists of these films using the archetypes developed by Carl Gustav Jung. By integrating perspectives from cinema studies, psychoanalysis, and folklore, this study aims to offer an interdisciplinary analysis of the Dune films.
