Abstract (EN)
ABSTRACT In this study, the growth strategies in the World automotive industry and it's effects on Turkish automotive industry are examined. This study consists of three parts. In the first part of the study, globalization and growth strategies concepts are examined. The descriptions in the literature and different views related to globalization concepts are studied. Then the historical development of globalization whose first concrete steps started at the 1 944 Bretton Woods conference is mentioned. Also the changes created by globalization concept on the business policy is evaluated and types of growth strategies are explained. In the second part of the study, first the structure of the World automotive industry is studied. The historical enhancement of the World automotive industry and the effects of the countries and automotive manufacturers in this enchancement are mentioned. The structure of the World automotive industry is explained with respect to automobiles, light commercial vehicles, trucks and buses. Also the reasons of the growth strategies in the World automotive industry are studied and examples are examined. After the future of the World Automotive Industry is evaluated, the historical enhancement of the Turkish automotive industry from 1920's to nowadays and important steps in this enhancement are mentioned. Then the structure of the Turkish automotive industry is explained with respect to local manufacrureres, importers and suppliers. The position and importance of the Turkish automotive industry in Turkish economy is determined. The main problems of the Turkish automotive industry and effects of the political decisions on Turkish automotive industry are also explained in this part. The growth strategies examples in Turkish automotive industry and the effects of these strategies are studied and solutions suggested. In the third and last part of this study, two case studies are examined: the merger between Daimler-Chrysler and the acquisition of Nissan by Renault. The development process, reasons and results of these growth strategies are analysed. The Daimler-Chrysler merger that is an example of unsuccessful growth strategy and the acquisition of Nissan by Renault which is an example of successful growth strategy are analysed and the reasons of these results are determined. vm
