Özet (EN)
In the context of the toy, the word doll is described in the Britannica dictionary as "child's toy modeled in human or animal form, it is perhaps the oldest plaything". Although it is thought that dolls were made out of various materials in the history of humanity, some of them could not survive since they were made of decayable materials such as wood or fabric. In the production of dolls, the selected materials and techniques, as well as the objectives of construction, show regional and cultural differences. Native American dolls were given as gifts to children to teach some spiritual elements. In Japanese culture, it is a collection object which is mostly used as a festival figure rather than a plaything, while in Europe it is sometimes a toy and sometimes a collection object appealing to adults. In the production of these dolls in the past, ceramics were used besides wood, cloth, wax compositions, and plastic. Among all these materials, porcelain has made a big difference in the construction of dolls and has a unique effect. Porcelain has its origin from China and can be separate from other ceramics with its white color, translucency, and hardness. "Porcelain doll" naming is the best-known name for these dolls in the world, but it is also known as the bisque doll and china doll. This thesis that named "Culture of Porcelain Dolls Around the World", includes the development of porcelain dolls, the technical and cultural changes, the meanings attributed to them. And with the data to be obtained as a result of these research, new porcelain dolls will be made and displayed with an exhibition. Keywords: Porcelain, Ceramic, Doll, Toy, Culture.
