Abstract (EN)

The effect of modeling and irregularities of 4 different buildings, which have and do not have vertical irregularity, on building dynamic behaviors was investigated in terms of earthquake zones and soil structure within the scope of this thesis. ideCAD© package program was used to analyze dynamic behaviors of the buildings which have vertical irregularity in accordance with Turkish Earthquake Code 2007 and were built in different earthquake zones (E1, E2, E3 and E4) and soil class (Z1, Z2, Z3 and Z4) and the obtained results were compared. Factors leading to building damages in earthquakes can be summarized as soil characteristics, earthquake characteristics and building features. Earthquake zones where the buildings are built, their soil classes and carrier system features affect the strength that they are going to be exposed to. The analysis of dynamic behavior of a building having simple and symmetrical carrier system is much easier and reliable than the analysis and modeling of dynamic behavior of a nonsymmetrical and complex building. In our day, unique and interesting designs of buildings come to the the forefront. Design of such interesting buildings brings along building irregularities as well. This thesis aims to investigate vertical building irregularities and the effect of these irregularities on dynamic behaviors in terms of earthquake zones and soil classes.
