Abstract (EN)
The Evaluation of the Effect of Low – Speed Drilling Without İrrigation on Dental Implant Success Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of low-speed drilling without irrigation on marginal bone loss around the implant and implants failure rate during implant site preparation. Material and Method: Total and partially edentulous 24 patients were included in the study. Except for the initial drill, 30 implants of the control group were made in a standard drilling speed (600 rpm) and irrigated whereas the 44 implants of the study group were made low – speed drilling (50 rpm) without irrigation. Periapical radiographs were taken from all implants immediately after implantation and postoperatively at 3 months. The marginal bone loss was determined at osseointegration phase. In addition, failure rates of implants, diameter and length, implant torque value, bone quality of the implant site, drilling and operation time were recorded in this study. The Kruskal Wallis test was used to compare the parameters between the groups and the Mann Whitney U test was used to determine the group that caused the difference. Chi-square test, Fisher's Exact Chi-square test, Continuity (Yates) correction and Fisher Freeman Halton test were used for comparison of qualitative data. Results: In this study; there was no statistically significant difference in terms of mesial, distal and mean marginal bone loss between low-speed drilling without irrigation (LSDI) and standard drilling (SD) protocol (p>0.05). There was no statistical difference between the groups when the failure rates of the implants were examined (p>0.05). In addition, implant placement torque values, drilling and operation time did not differ between groups (p> 0.05). Conclusion: Findings obtained in the study; it was concluded that the marginal bone loss and failure rates of implants made with LSDI were similar to the SD protocol. However, there is a need for further work on the reliability of the technique. Key Words: dental implant, autogenous bone graft, low–speed drilling without irrigation
