Özet (EN)

The thesis presents the design and construction of low-energy gravity drop hammer and results of sample tests conducted at low energy levels. The testing mechanism is manufacturing and assembled in Mechanics Laboratory of Mechanical Engineering Department at Gazi University. In this thesis metal forming machines are surveyed in detail, classification and design criterias of hammers are presented. It is found that, the gravity drop hammer is the simplest and cheapest device for performing metal forming processes at low impact speeds. The constructed gravity drop hammer consists of mainly two guides, a bottom anvil, a ram, an accelerometer and a quick release mechanism. The drop height of the hammer is approximate 4 ? 4,5 m. The maximum available impact speed of the ram is about 8 m/s. Also the work capacity of the hammer is about 190 J for the 7kg-ram. Otherwise, Most of the metal forming operations such as bar cropping, sheet metal operations can be performed by using the the hammer.
