Abstract (EN)

Objective: The aim of this thesis study is to compare the effects of low torque and speed values on postoperative pain in asymptomatic devital mandibular first molars. Materials and Methods: This randomized clinical study included 80 patients. Patients were divided into four groups according to the different torque and speed values of the Fanta V Taper Gold rotary file system used during root canal shaping. The first group was shaped with 1N torque and 250 rpm speed, the second group with 1N torque and 350 rpm speed, the third group with 2N torque and 250 rpm speed, and the fourth group with 2N torque and 350 rpm speed. Patients recorded their pain intensity on a 10 cm visual analog scale at 6, 24, 48, 72 hours, and 7 days after treatment. One Way ANOVA and Kruskal Wallis were used for comparison of groups for each time interval, and repeated measures ANOVA was used for comparison of groups according to time. Results: According to the statistical analysis results, low torque and speed values did not create a significant difference in postoperative pain levels after the procedure (p>0.005). Preparation times were compared during the procedure and the preparation was completed in a significantly longer time in the group applied 1N, 250 RPM. No significant difference was found between the groups in terms of analgesic intake after the procedure. Conclusion: Within the limitations of this study, it was determined that applying lower torque and speed than the values specified by the manufacturer did not provide superiority in postoperative pain after the procedure, but low torque and speed values prolonged the preparation time during the procedure.
