Abstract (EN)

Mural paintings represent a form of artistic expression applied to either public or private spaces, reflecting the social development and transformation processes that contribute to a city's identity. Although previously regarded as an illegal form of art, this practice has gained legal recognition and has established itself as a prominent category of wall art, including some of the most recognized works of street art. Nevertheless, the visibility of these art pieces in public spaces has gradually decreased over time, leading to a diminished level of public awareness. While it is challenging to fully communicate the essence and significance of art, the use of colour and movement in enhancing the dullness of urban environments can foster a positive outlook on society. Augmented reality technology implemented in wall art allows for an ongoing interactive experience, increasing public engagement, and promoting tourism. Augmented reality is a novel technology that is not commonly utilized in the realm of art. This thesis employs the descriptive scanning method of document analysis to scrutinize the historical developmental processes of street art, graffiti, and wall art both globally and within Türkiye. The works produced in the context of environmental graphic design and wall art are elucidated, and a more objective explanation is presented to the reader through the semiotic analysis method. Augmented reality technology is utilized to investigate the information transfer and experience process of applications encompassing environmental and wall art. The thesis provides information on outdoor exhibition design, and these designs are illustrated through sample images. The interrelation between wall art applications processed within the environmental graphic design procedure and augmented reality technology, the topics tackled within the environmental graphic design process, the historical progress of wall art and augmented reality, and the analysis of messages, their visual perception, and semiotics in wall art and augmented reality content are crucial works for exploring their impact on society. Keywords: Semiotics, Mural, Wall Art, Graffiti, Augmented Reality, Unity SDK
