The pragmatical relationship of proverbs on emotion with the human body

Abstract (EN)

In the study, it is aimed to analyze the relationship between the proverbs on emotion and the human body in terms of pragmatics. For this purpose, document analysis, one of the qualitative research methods, was used in the study. The universe of the research is Metin Yurtbaşı's (2001) Classified Proverbs dictionary. Proverbs for analysis; The subject is examined under the headings of emotion association, body relation, noun type, total number of words used, sentence structure, sentence type, emotional adjectives, verb frame, emphasized element. As a result of the research, it was determined that there are 170 proverbs about emotion and 23 different emotional themes in these proverbs. While forming proverbs on emotion, 30 human body elements were used. The number of emotional adjectives expressed by emotions is 68. The number of positive proverbs is 65 and the number of negative proverbs is 105. 356 concrete and 78 abstract names were used while forming proverbs. In 158 of the proverbs, the active verb is used, in 11, the passive verb and in 1, the verb with the lethal voice is used. The examined proverbs on emotion consist of 154 regular, 14 inverted and 2 elliptical sentences. It was determined that 96 of the proverbs included in the study emphasized the object element of the sentence, the subject of the sentence in 38, and the complement element of the sentence in 34. Most of the limbs' names used in proverbs are limbs located outside of the body.
