Abstract (EN)

Neural tube defects (NTD) occur as a result of the flows emerging during the closure of the neural tube in embryo. NTD's are central nervous system abnormalities that can be put diagnosis by triple scan test or ultra sound graphic (USG). The incidence of neural tube defects worldwide, in 1000 animate birth is between 1,4 – 2 . In our study it is aimed to evaluate the factors effective in NTD etiology. To our study, between the dates April 2013 and April 2014, in University of Duzce Faculty of Physic Gynecological Diseases and Birth MFS, the patients of whom pregnancy is being terminated because of the NTD that do not comport with life and the patients whose treatments are in progress with the diagnosis of neural tube defect in University of Duzce Faculty of Physic in Pediatrics MFS are included. As to the control group, the patients having single healthy baby birth in Duzce province are included. In study group 30 and in control group 30 patients are included to the study. It is compared the usage of folic acid pre- and after the pregnancy between the groups, age, age of mate, body mass index (BMI), occupation, occupation of mate, gravid, parity, cigarette/alcohol consumption, intermarriage, the story of infertility. As a result; the supplement of folic acid in preconceptional and conceptional terms is determined as an important protective factor against neural tube defects. The increase of mothernal education level and mothernal body mass index are fixed as other factors being effective in NTD hazard. In order to detect and eliminate the conditions generating NTD hanard, it is thought that randomise and comprehansive studies are necessary.
