Abstract (EN)
Demographic data, endometrial biopsy indications, histopathological diagnosis results and factors affecting these outcomes of the EMB patients who applied to Düzce University Hospital gynecology polyclinic between 2015-2017. EMB is a safe and cost-effective diagnostic method for the evaluation of endometrium. EMB is usually used to investigate the cause of abnormal uterine bleeding in perimenopausal and postmenopausal women and to exclude endometrial cancer. Endometrial cancer is the most common invasive gynecologic malignancy; Endometrial hyperplasia may be a precursor to this cancer. EMB can be made to the women with risk factors for endometrial hyperplasia or cancer. In this study, we aimed to present histopathologic results of EMB types of patients from various age groups who applied to our clinic for different reasons and compare these results according to age groups, symptoms and endometrial thickness measured by TvUSG. 60 out of 493 patients who underwent endometrial sampling between January 2015 and January 2017 in Düzce University Medical Faculty Obstetrics and Gynecology Department were excluded because they did not meet the criteria for admission to the study. Of the 433 patients admitted to the study, 231 were classified as premenopausal and 202 were classified as postmenopausal. Demographic data, medical treatments, EMB methods and obtained histopathological results were retrospectively analyzed. The most common endometrial pathology among premenopausal patients was endometrial polyps with a prevalence rate of 22.1%. Endometrial carcinoma was not seen in the premenopausal patient group. Mean endometrial thickness of premenopausal and postmenopausal patients was not significantly different (p = 0,728). The most frequent histopathological diagnosis in the postmenopausal period EMB was with 32% of the endometrial polyps. The incidence of endometrium cancer was 5%. Patients diagnosed with endometrial carcinoma were observed to have increased endometrium thickness measured by TvUSG. The increased endometrial thickness cut-off value of endometrium cancers was 8.5 mm. The aim of the study is to develop a gynecological approach that includes diagnosis of endometrial hyperplasia and cancer in patients presenting with hemorrhagic irregularity, which includes demographic characteristics, examination findings, TvUSG evaluation and ultimately diagnosis of EMB.
