Determination of some pomological and morphological charecteristics of chesnut (Castanae sativa Mill.) in Düzce region

This study was conducted in Akçakoca, Cumayeri, Gölyaka, Kaynaşlı, Merkez, Yığılca and Çilimli districts of Düzce province in 2017-2018. In this study, it was aimed to select the genotypes which are superior in terms of fruit quality among the chestnuts in Düzce region. In the study, a total of 250 genotypes were evaluated and 20 genotypes were selected in Akçakoca (45), Cumayeri (30), Gölyaka (15), Kaynaşlı (45), Merkez (60), Yığılca (25) and Çilimli (30) regions. Some phenological, pomological, chemical and stoma characteristics of selected genotypes were determined. In selected genotypes, fruit weight 6.17-8.41 g, fruit kernel weight 5.03-7.19 g, shell thickness 0.106-0.143 mm, fruit shape index 0.62-0.74, fruit internal ratio 80.0-86.0%, fruit color 16 genotype white / light cream, 4 genotype was determined as cream. In terms of chemical content, the protein content of genotypes ranged between 3.51% - 8.90, total fat content 0.54-3.74%, ash content 0.74-1.32%, moisture content 51.71-58.61%. According to genotypes, leaf length 19.13-27.35 cm, leaf width 6.60-9.75 cm, the distance between the two veins of the leaves 1.15-1.81 cm, leaf stem length 1.04-1.97 cm, leaf stoma length 16.22-23.89 m, stoma width 13.99 -19.82 m, stoma length / width ratio was 0.66-1.23 µm and stoma number ranged between 243.81-729.61 units / mm2. At the end of the study, it was suggested that the selected genotypes should be preserved as a gene source and reproduced and used in new studies.
