The studies on antimicrobial activities of two species from the family Lamiaceae (Leonurus quinquelobatus Gilib. and Stachys thirkei C. Koch) distributed in Duzce region

In this study, ethanol, chloroform and ethyl acetate extracts obtained from Stachys thirkei C.Koch (Lamiaceae) and Leonurus quinquelobatus Gilib. (Lamiaceae) collected from Düzce province were investigated for their antimicrobial activities against the bacterial cultures; Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853, Escherichia coli ATCC 25992, Salmonella typhimurium CCM 5445, Klebsiella oxytoca ATCC, Proteus vulgaris ATCC 8427, Yersinia pestis ATCC 19428, Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 6538P, Enterococcus faecalis ATCC 29212, Listeria innocua ATCC 33090 and yeast cultures Candida albicans ATCC 90028, Candida glabrata ATCC 90030, Candida parapsilosis ATCC 22019, Cryptococcus neoformans ATCC 32045, Debaryomyces hansenii DSM 70238 by disc-diffusion method. The extracts obtained from Stachys thirkei have shown a strong antimicrobial activities against on all tested microorganisms used in this study whith inhibitions zones of 6,33-19,42 mm. The highest antimicrobial effect has observed against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 6538P (19,42 mm) in the ethyl acetate extract. The extracts obtained from Leonurus quinquelobatus have shown a potential antimicrobial activities against on all tested microorganisms with inhibition zones of 6,06-21,34 mm. The highest antimicrobial effect of the plant has determined against Candida parapsilosis ATCC 22019 (21,34 mm) in the ethanol extract. It is determined that the plants on the other microorganisms used in the study have shown the antimicrobial effects on the different levels.
