Abstract (EN)

The commerce, whose emergence is equivalent to the history of humanity, has become increasingly electronic over time with the birth of information and communication technologies and the internet. In the light of digital transformation and technological innovations, consumer needs and expectations have changed. Small or large-scale companies, which quickly adapted to this new state of changing trade, have been able to keep up with the global competition conditions. The concept of e-commerce, which emerged in parallel with these changes, brought a new breath to today's economy. E-commerce, fed by innovation and digital transformation, has significant effects on the world and Turkish economy. Although the birth of e-commerce dates back to the recent past, since it is very comprehensive and multidimensional, it is necessary to approach the subject with a broad perspective in studies related to e-commerce. In this study, starting from the emergence of the internet and its development in the historical process, by referring general information about e-commerce and the electronicization process of commerce, the place, importance and development of e-commerce in the world economy are mentioned. In the last part of the study, in the light of its legal framework, it has been tried to place the development of e-commerce in Turkey, its leading practices and its effects on the economy with current data.
