The effect of education on ethical sensitivity, critical thinking and decision making skills in midwifery students

Purpose: This study was conducted as a descriptive study in order to determine the relationship between midwifery students' ethical education and their critical thinking and moral sensitivity levels. Material and method: Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University School of Health midwifery department students [N=285] formed the universe of the research and 233 students who did not choose the sample were the sample of the research in accordance with the criteria of inclusion. Data were collected by using the "Descriptive Information Form", "Moral Sensitivity Questionnaire (MSQ)", "California Critical Thinking Disposition Inventory (CCTDI)". The data of the study was uploaded to SPSS 21 program and the relevance of data to the normal distribution was evaluated by Shapiro-Wilk test. Results: There was no statistically significant difference between the mean scores of midwifery students who participated in the study from the MSQ and CCTDI scales and ethical education (p>0.05). A significant difference was found between high school graduation of midwifery students and the benefit dimension of the scale MSQ (p<0,05). A significant difference was found between students in the conflict dimension of MSQ scale according to the status of ethics education. There was no significant relationship between ethics education and CCTDI (p>0,05). Conclusion: According to the results of the study, it was determined that the levels of MSQ and CCTDI of midwifery students were "low" and ethics education did not show a significant effect.
