The investigation of geothermal potential of area between Eber and Akşehir lakes (Afyonkarahisar) by using geological and geophysical methods

In the thesis study, it was aimed to determine the geothermal resource potential of the Sultandağı vicinity by utilizing the geological, geophysical and mineralogical-petrographic data. The study area is located southeast of the Afyon-Akşehir Graben (AAG). Geological features of the geothermal system of the study area were revealed in the geological field observations. Mineralogical-petrographic properties of the geothermal system components were determined with the help of polarizing microscope and x-ray diffraction (XRD) analyses. In order to reveal the three-dimensional change of the probable geothermal system in the study area, magnetotelluric (MT) measurements were carried out along the profiles in the Northwest-Southeast direction.Similar to field geology studies, faults forming the southern border of the Afyon-Akşehir Gaben System (AAG) and faults cutting them in different directions were determined in the resistivity models of the project area. It is beneficial to open exploration drilling in order to observe the geothermic gradient in low resistivity locations indicating geothermal anomaly by taking detailed DES measurements in low resistivity areas at the intersections of faults with different directions.
