The relationship between parenting styles, political socialization, leadership, personality and voting behavior

The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between parental styles, political socialization, leadership, personality and voting behavior. It is also among the objectives of the present study to test a model of voting behavior. For this purpose, the sample of this study was composed of 393 students, 266 female and 127 male students. In addition to the demographic questionnaire, the participants were applied Political Party Identity Scale, Political Leader Assessment Scale, Political Socialization Scale, Parental Attitude Scale and Basic Personality Traits Inventory. The findings of the study showed that neuroticism, which is one of the sub-dimensions of personality traits, has a moderation role in the relationship between political party identity and relationship-oriented leadership. It was also found that openness and agreeableness, sub-dimensions of personality traits, have a moderator role in the relationships between political party identity and task-oriented leadership. Models were also tested for each leadership style. As a result, two different models were suggested to explain charismatic leadership and relationship-oriented leadership with parental styles, personality traits and political socialization variables. The research findings have been discussed in the light of related literature.
