Examination and analysis of Athīr al-Dīn al-Abharī's work named Talhis al- Hakāiq

This study examines a book titled Telhîsu'l-hakâik, which is a manuscript written in an encyclopedic style by Esîrüddin el-Ebherî' (665 AH/ 1265 AD[?]) who maintained the Avicenna's system of thought in the 7th and 8th centuries AH within the tradition of Islamic thought. This work, one of Ebherî's average size books, discusses the entire issues of philosophy without indulging the details based on the logic of classical era. The study encompasses four chapters. The first chapter presents a short biography of the writer and introduces his works briefly. The second chapter gives information about the manuscripts of the work such as their authenticity and title, and explains the methods used for examination. The third chapter, by showing Telhîsu'l-hakâik's system, discusses the function of logic in Ebherî's thought and its place in the classification of sciences; it also highlights what Ebherî considers as the subject of the logic. Then, the study discusses how the concept "al-umūr al-'āmmah" is handled and the concept list in this line is constructed in the books Beyânu'l-esrâr, Kitâbu'l-metâli and Zübdetü'l-hakâik, all belong to the compilation which also involves Telhîsu'l-hakâik. After this, in order to make a modest contribution to our understanding of Ebherî's thought in relation to Telhîsu'l-hakâik, the issues -mentioned in the work- of "el-cuz'ullezî lâ yetecezzâ (atom)" and "the ways of necessary existent's knowing all" are addressed. Moreover, the chapters of the work on logic, physics and metaphysics are summarized. In the final chapter, a critical edition of the book, based on two manuscript copies, is presented.
