Abu al-Huda al-Sayyādi and his poetry objectives

This research deals with a personality whose fame was spread across the horizons in the late Ottoman era. His poetic legacy however has not yet been subject to any independent academic research since that era up until this current research. The man in question is no other than Abu Al-Huda Al-Sayyādi, an advisor to sultan Abdul Hamid the second and one of his close inner circle. This research aims firstly to give a small glimpse into the life of Al-Sayyādi followed by a few words on his most important academic contributions that were able to be procured. This research then takes a pause at his literary works which remained for a long time covered by the dusts of neglect are are only now being brought forth. Secondly this research looks into his poetic writings that can be found throughout his literature, specifically looking at the objectives of his poetry that are contained under the domes of his works. This whilst also trying to touch upon some of the grammatical and rhetorical beauty that one may find concealed within his poetry as well as highlighting the many forms in which this beauty is presented. Furthermore, it aims to clarify the main principles/axioms upon which these poetic objectives are built. It became apparent during the course of the research that Abu al Huda organised his poetry and its objectives in accordance to what was needed during his time. It is reported that his most prolific writings were poured out in the genres of 'Prophetic praise', panegyric and didactic poetry. Perhaps the most prominent influencing agent that can be gleaned from his poetry is that of Sufism as well as the continuous sadness that afflicted him due to his exile and the events of his time.
