Abstract (EN)
This study aims to introduce the scholar Ebussuud Efendi, and expound on his attitude at Qur?anic exegesis and his approach to the judgmental verses (ayatul ahkam) upon which the essential principles of religion are based.The sources benefited while preparing this study are the original work of Ebussuud Efendi in Arabic and its Turkish translation by Ali Akın for comparison.The study consists of three parts: the first part introduces the life, personality, and works of Ebussuud Efendi. The second part introduces Ebussuud Efendi?s book of Qur?anic Exegesis concerning how it was written, its basic features, an evaluation of his work with respect to dirayat and riwayat (his own interpretations and his dependence on reported knowledge, that is, the Prophetic Traditions and the opinions of the Prophet?s Companions), and the sources he benefited from. In the third and main part, the interpretations of Ebussuud Efendi are focused on under different headings such as worship, family law, penal law, commercial law, and his interpretations on miscellaneous issues.
