The life of Edvard Grieg and examination the violin part of his Op.13 No.2 violin-piano sonata

Edvard Grieg, the most important representative of the Norwegian National School of Music, played a major role in the recognition of Norwegian Folk Music by the world through using folkloric riches such as Slatter rhythm, Springar dance atmosphere, and Hardenger violin in his works. Moreover, with his harmonic and formal innovative attitude, he deeply influenced important impressionist composers such as Debussy and Ravel. The composer, who is also famous for being a successful pianist, had the chance to become very popular in his lifetime by introducing his works to the whole music world through the concerts he gave in Europe His Op.13 No.2 Violin-Piano Sonata in G Major, written in 1867, is both one of the Grieg's most popular works and also one of the most successful examples of the blending of Norwegian folkloric elements with art music. In this thesis, Edvard Grieg's life, his artistic understanding, and stylistic features were discussed in general terms, and his Op.13 No.2 Violin-Piano Sonata was examined in terms of violin techniques, interpretation methods, and technical and musical difficulties. Also, some practicing suggestions were presented to performers to practice more properly.
