Abstract (EN)
This study was carried out to determine the effects on reproductive performances of CIDR implants in different mating seasons for 133 ewes, consists of Awassi and Cukurova meat sheep, raised in the Research and Application Farm of Faculty of Agriculture of Çukurova University also to study the growth performances of their lambs. The study aims to make three lambings every two years the first season (random mating without using CIDR device), the second season (outside of mating season using CIDR device) includes 330 mg of Progesterone for 12 days and after removing CIDR; injected by PMSG (500 IU) and the third season (inside mating season also by using CIDR device) include 330 mg of Progesterone for 14 days and after removing CIDR; injected by PMSG (500 IU). The lambing rates were 79.59%, 55.55 %, and 56.41%, litter size (prolificacy) was 138.46%, 124.00% and 136.36%, fecundity was 110.20%, 68.88% and 79.92 %. Mortality rate 0%, 9.67% and 6.66% were found respectively by seasons. Birth weights of male and female lambs have been found 4.14 and 4.08 kg for 1st season, 4.11 and 4.49 kg for the second season and 4.25 and 3.91 kg for the third season. For the birth type as single and twins' weight of lambs first season was 4.40 kg, 3.89 kg, in the 2nd season 4.65 kg and 3.80 kg in the 3rd season 4.45 kg and 3.85 kg were found respectively. Birth weights of single lambs have been significantly higher than the twin births weights of lambs (p<0.05).
