Effects of visual communication design on the process of designing educational materials

This study searched the effects of Visual Communication Design on the process of designing visual educational materials. Three research questions led the researcher in the conduct of the research. The research adopted quasi-experimental design involved seventy-five (75) learners and twenty-five (25) educators for the study. Data for the study were collected during teaching-learning process which lasted for eight weeks. The instrument used for data collection were questionnaires conducted both educators and learners. Non- participant observation technique was used to observe and record learners' reflection during teaching-learning process. The research hypotheses were analysed using descriptive statistic. The major findings of the study indicated that effectiveness of a visual educational material prepared considering the elements and principles of Visual Communication Design was more explicit than that of those prepared disregarding the significance of the elements and principles of Visual Communication Design. Moreover, it showed that comprehension and attendance of the learners using visual educational materials prepared by regarding Visual Communication Design Elements and Principles increased during the learning process. It also indicated that an educator's performance using visual educational materials including the elements and principles of Visual Communication Design is more impressive than that of those using visual educational materials prepared disregarding the elements and principles of Visual Communication Design. Finally, the researcher recommended that the government and the principals of schools should provide educators enough flexibility to choose the most appropriate visual educational materials during the learning process. Furthermore, this study stated that educators should be informed about the significance of the elements and principles of Visual Communication Design on learning process during their undergraduate education.
