The architecture of the Ege Gübre Neolithic Settlement

The Ege Gübre Settlement is located at Kendirci Mevkii ca. 10 km SW ofAliağa in İzmir province. It lies 3-4 m below the actual surface within the territory ofEge Gübre Factory. It was excavated as a salvage project in 2004 ? 2007. Theexcavations conducted by the cooperation of the İzmir Museum and theArchaeology Department of Ege University under the leadership of Yrd. Doç. Dr.Haluk Sağlamtimur.Western Anatolia played an important role for the distribution of ?Neolithicassemblages? from Anatolia to Europa via mainland Greece and the Balkans. Sinceresearch on Neolithic Period in the coastal part of the Western Anatolia is limitedcompare to the other regions of the Anatolia, our knowledge is rather poor. The sitesHacılar, Kuruçay, Höyücek and Bademağacı in the Lake District, Ulucak Höyük andYeşilova in İzmir province are the a few excavated sites in Western Anatolia.The aim of the thesis is not only to define the Neolithic architecture of theEge Gübre Settlement but also to understand its significance in the Neolithicassemblage by comparing it to the contemporary settlements of Anatolia, mainlandGreece, Cyprus and the Balkans. Stratigraphy of the site is conducted by a detailedstudy of the architecture. The construction technique of the structures, theirlocations, their features and their possible functions in the village are studied andenriched by drawings, tables and different exposures. The data is compared to thecontemporary settlements of Anatolia, mainland Greece, Cyprus and the Balkans fordisplaying the similarities and differences.
