Evaluation of pregnancy follow-ups conducted in the target population registered at training family health centers

INTRODUCTION AND AIM: This study assessed the quality of prenatal care services provided to pregnant women who applied to Sakarya Zümrüt Müftüoğlu Eğitim Aile Sağlığı Merkezi and Karaman 2 No'lu Eğitim Aile Sağlığı Merkezi. It also examined factors influencing the uptake of these services. The aim was to determine how well prenatal care services meet the needs of pregnant women and contribute to improving the quality of these services. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Designed as a descriptive study, the research was conducted with 173 pregnant women who visited these centers between November 4, 2022, and June 7, 2024. Data were collected through automated system records and a 12-question phone survey covering sociodemographic and pregnancy-related information. Analyses were performed using SPSS v.27, with statistical significance set at p<0.05. RESULTS: The study included 138 women surveyed, and 86 who completed four prenatal follow-ups were analyzed for service quality. Among the participants, 83.3% received tetanus vaccination, 97.3% took iron supplements, and 92.9% used vitamin D. The rate of those who received counseling during pregnancy was 79.5%, with nutrition being the most common topic. The average prenatal care service score was X ̄ ±SS=5,62±0,71. Statistical analysis showed no significant differences between sociodemographic characteristics and prenatal care scores. CONCLUSION: The findings suggest that prenatal care services are generally provided at a satisfactory level. However, there is room for improvement in counseling service rates. The results can serve as a guide for interventions aimed at enhancing the quality and effectiveness of prenatal care services.
