Fuat Baymur: In the context of the concept of education (1924-1964)

In the period when the Ottoman Empire was destroyed and the Republic of Turkey was established, radical changes were needed in the field of education, as in every field. It was important to change the education system from top to bottom and to give education a modern structure for the adoption of the new regime, national unity and solidarity, and the training of qualified citizens needed by the young republic. Ahmet Fuat Baymur, who lived in this period and was one of the leading educators of the republic in the first period, made important contributions to the modernization of the Turkish education system in the light of his observations and studies abroad, especially at the primary school level during the transition period. In this study, Ahmet Fuat Baymur's thoughts, opinions and suggestions on the basic lessons taught in primary school were examined based on his books about these lessons. In this context, in the first part of the study, Ahmet Fuat Baymur's education life and personality traits, his studies in Turkey and abroad and his works are revealed. Then, in the second part, Ahmet Fuat Baymur's views and suggestions about the First Literacy, Life Studies, Turkish, History and Geography lessons were examined. The aforementioned courses were examined in separate sections, and first of all, the general situation in the period when Ahmet Fuat Baymur continued his studies was briefly mentioned about each course. Later, Ahmet Fuat Baymur's views on the related courses were explained based on his books, and his contributions to the Turkish education system were tried to be revealed by comparing with the literature.
