Information system analysis in training and research hospitals: Sample for Atatürk Training and Research Hospital

The increasing competitive conditions have caused establishmentsto search for new and more effective management means for the sake of moreefficient administration. While making decisions, administrations in theestablishments need true and complete information just on time and as muchas they need. Thus, an information system, which would enable them toobtain this information, is necessary. It is of utmost importance that thisestablished information is rendered applicable by the administrators.Due to the importance and intensity of the services, which healthsector and especially hospitals provide, employment of information system isunavoidable. Ready access and efficient employment of information is lifeimportant with respect to both the administrative functions and the healthservices.This study had been carried out at Atatürk Training and ResearchHospital as a sample of Training and Research Hospitals. By analyzing thehospital systems and present information system and measuring theperformance of the information system at Atatürk Training and ResearchHospital, it had been aimed to present suggestions for the improvement ofhospital information system.The study had been discussed in two sections. In the first sectioninformation systems, hospitals and hospital information system had beeninvestigated. In the second section present hospital system and hospitalinformation system had been analyzed and for the evaluation of presentinformation system, user satisfaction had been measured by conducting asurvey. In the conclusion section by evaluating the information that wereprovided as a result of the analysis and performance measurement, proposalshad been presented for the improvement of the information system at AtatürkTraining and Research Hospital.As a result of the analysis and the survey conducted in this study, ithad been concluded that the hospital information systems are inevitable foreducation research and health services. Hospitals are to continuouslyimprove their information systems according to the developing technologyand increasing service demands.
