The effect of educational informatics network ( EBA ) assisted maths teaching on academic achievement of seventh grade students

The purpose of this study is to determine the effects of EBA-supported maths instruction, on 7th grade students' academic achievement about views of the objects from different directions, and the opinions of the students related to EBA. The research was conducted in the second semester of 2017-2018 academic year. Both quantitative and qualitative methods were used in the research. In the quantitative part of the study, pretest-posttest control grouped semi-experimental design was used. While the subject about views of the objects from different directions was explained to a group in the classroom environment with textbooks and concrete materials, it was explained to the other group using EBA course contents in the computer laboratory. A total of 53 seventh grade students, 29 of them are in the test group and 24 of them are in the control group, in a middle school located one of the towns connected to a province in the western Black Sea region, constitute a sample of the research. A 26-item achievement test was developed by researcher through taking an expert opinion and doing the validity and reliability study. The achievement test was applied to both groups as pre-test before the application, final test at the end of application and retention test after one month. The obtained data were analysed with SPSS 17.0 package program. Mann-Whitney U Test, Wilcoxon Marked Rank Test and T Test for Dependent Groups were used in the analysis of the data. In the qualitative part of the study, students were asked to fill in the opinion form consisting of questions about the usage of EBA and the views of the children were taken at the end of the application, According to the results of the analysis of quantitative data, learning was realized in both groups regarding the views of the objects from different directions, and it was seen that the students in the experimental group were more successful than the students in the control group. Learning in both groups has been permanent. According to the qualitative data, it was observed that the students had a positive opinion about EBA.
