Evaluation of the competence of the administrators of educational institutions for disaster and emergency situations in the event of crisis: The case of Gümüşhane province

Turkey is one of the countries in the earthquake zone. For this reason, managers and upper echelons in public institutions need to work to make society safer when designing their living spaces. At the beginning of these places are educational institutions where children in the young age group who cannot provide individual protection. School administrators play an important role in helping schools prepare for disasters and respond quickly to incidents. Planning, exercises, coordination and training in risk management are important in order to better position the approaches of school administrators in crisis. The aim of the study is to determine the planning, coordination, communication competencies of managers in educational institutions in the event of disaster and Emergency Preparedness and crisis caused by disaster, and to determine whether their preparation for these competencies differs according to individual variables. For this purpose, the relevant literature was scanned and a questionnaire was created in accordance with the information obtained. The survey includes 66 questions that measure the personal skills of managers as well as demographic questions. This survey form, which is allowed to be made, was filled out by managers who want to participate in the study in educational institutions. The data obtained were analyzed using the SPSS 22 Data Program. As a result of the study, 8.9% of administrators were undecided about whether such a study was possible when fixing efforts to reduce non-structural hazards in schools were evaluated. In order for managers ' work on Crisis Management to be successful, crises that may occur in educational institutions should be recognized. At the same time, attention should be paid to the in-service training activities necessary for managers to approach the crisis management process systematically.
