Harmonic analysis of classical music pieces and accompaniment models on creating educational music repertoire

Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to create school songs from the themes of Classical Music pieces and to write piano accompaniment based on the harmonic and formal analysis of these pieces. This study is in survey model and a pragmatic research. The research group consisted of 390 students attending the 5th , 6th , 7th and 8th grades of four secondary schools in Buca district of Izmir, in the 2016-2017 academic year. The rating scale which is in the three-point likert type was used as the data collection tool. 25 classical pieces selected according to expert opinions were listened to the research group and 10 most appreciated pieces were determined. Harmonic and formal analyses of themes of these selected pieces were made and adapted songs and piano accompaniments were created in accordance with these analyses. It is thought that the study is important in terms of transferring high-quality and universal musical pieces to educational music repertoire as adapted songs with piano accompaniments and guiding music teacher and prospective music teachers explaining the analysis steps.
