The use of internet with respect to education and socialization (Istanbul sample)

xm SUMMARY Key words: Internet use, education, socialization, education and socialization, internet users, daily internet activities. In this research the effects of using internet on preservice teachers and those who spend their leisure time in internet cafe and library's internet center were examined. The basic purpose of this research is to determine the effect of using internet on individuals in terms of education and socialization in Turkey(Istanbul sample) The research participants were 185 preservice teachers who attend to Computer and Teaching Technologies Department, Science Education and Social Science Education programs of Elementary Education Department of Marmara University and 102 internet users in Marmara University internet center, and in 12 internet cafe of Kadıköy and Ümraniye. A questionaire developed by researcher was administered to 287 participats, then randomly chosen 25 research participats were called to interview from them. Data were collected through questionnaires and interviews from persons who used internet in last 30 days. Findings showed that internet use and new technologies give new perspectives to reach information and knowledge. It can be said that it is a new period with lots of differences. This new period accelerates the formation of a new society which has internet centered communication. In short, Internet changes educational systems, socialization process, personalities and habits.
