Evaluation of the spatial sufficiency of gymnasiums in educational buildings: The Trabzon example

Sports are essential for the physical, cognitive, and social development of kids as well as for their ability to move around and interact with others. After exercising, children who participate in sports emit more endorphin, and this release helps them succeed more. Participating in sports improves a person's emotional, physical, and cognitive growth. Gymnasiums that can satisfy children's desire for movement, help them let off steam, and build social bonds are becoming more and more crucial in today's world, as a growing number of children live in cities with less space for play and sports. This study was conducted to determine the spatial adequacy of gymnasiums in educational buildings. Initially, a review of the literature was done to find out how gymnasiums in educational buildings have evolved historically, what constitutes a gymnasium, and what the essential specifications for a gymnasium are. The following phase of the research involved fieldwork on the suitability of the specifications for the gymnasiums utilized for physical education classes, as well as on-site inspections and observations in the gymnasiums of four chosen high schools in the Ortahisar district of Trabzon. The current state of the gymnasiums in the four selected educational structures was the subject of a semi-structured survey, interview, and questionnaire with teachers and students. Examining the data from the study and assessing the physical requirements of the gymnasiums in educational buildings, it was found that the physical requirements of the gymnasiums cannot be met at a sufficient level and that the hall arrangements are insufficient to meet the needs of the students and perform the desired activities at a sufficient level.
