The effect of creative drama in education on the adoptation process of child asylum seekers

Turkey as a country where asylum-seeker population reached serious proportions in recent years as a result of increased immigration movement is faced with adaptation problems. Education, which is one of the basic children's rights, has an important role in order to avoid a lost generation in consequence of migration movements. In the research, the effect of creative drama in education on asylum-seeker children's adaptation process was discussed. A group of asylum-seeker students from different countries studying in Istanbul Zeytinburnu Kazim Ozalp Elementary School and a mixed group of Turkish students have both been implemented creative drama workshops. It is believed that -in the face of migration movements- supporting the child's holistic well-being, creating healthy social contact areas and the child's being involved in the processes in which her/his right to participate is supported will directly contribute to the adaptation process. Creative drama processes, which are an active and living process and which directly fulfill the right of participation thanks to its structure, are included in this study. It is hoped that this study will be able to serve as a resource in the implementation of alternative methods in the construction of inclusive education environments and in the social policies to be produced.
