Representation of consumption cultere and leisure time i̇n entertaiment programs: Survivor All Star example

Leisure time, related to the study, have the meaning for liberation from obligation of work. However, the meaning of leisure time go through changes as from Ancient Greece and capitalist system's first years of organization to these days which can be referred as consumption age. With these changes, leisure time is no longer liberation time. It became a tool to ensure the continiuty of the system by the investments of capitalism for it. The main goal of this study is to evaluate the sovereign canalisation of leisure time, which is considered as a domain in which person can be freed from pressure and obligation of work and have a good time with his/her own will, for ensuring the continiuty of the system with a critical aproach by using 'Survivor All Star' as an example. The study consists two parts.The first part which is literature review consists teoretical discussions such as; the meaning of leisure time concept, leisure time in historical process and the relationship between leisure time and entertainment. Culture industry, consumption culture, the effects of advertisement on consumption culture and relationship between consumption culture and leisure time were investigated, entertainment and game shows on television were examined later on. In second part of the study, general properties of 'Survivor All Star' programme were revealed and investigated with discourse analysis method in context of leisure time and consumption culture.
