Abstract (EN)

vm SUMMARY THE EFFECTS OF EXERCISE ON INTRAOCULAR PRESSURE IN SPORTSMEN AND SEDENTARY PEOPLE This study was made to investigate the effects of exercise on intraocular pressure in athletes and sedentary people. Totally 20 athletes, 11 females and 19 males, and 25 sedentary people, 10 females and 15 males were included in the study. First the intraocular pressure values of all the sportsmen and the sedentary people in relaxing time were taken. Afterwards, all the subjects were taken onto the treadmill in turn and were applied exercise until the maximum blood pressure level was reached. Intraocular pressures of the students were measured after they stepped down from the treadmill immediately after exercise and the intraocular pressure was taken again 30 minutes and 2 hours after the exercise respectively. In sedentary people, the intraocular pressure values were found to decrease significantiy both in the left eye and in the right eye immediately after, thirty minutes after and 2 hours after the exercise m terms of the relaxing time values. In addition, The values of 3Q minutes and 2 hours after ft» exercise were found not to change, that is to say not to increase, stymficantly in the sedentary people. No difference was observed in the values of 2 hours following the 30 minutes after the exercise, that is, intraocular pressure was found not to be significant in sedentary people. In athletes, the values observed immediately after and 30 minutes after the exercise were found to decrease significantiy both in the left eye and in the right eye in terms of relaxing time. Yet the values of 2 hours after the exercise were found not to be different from the values in the relaxing time. In the light of these results, it was observed that the increase seen in intraocular pressure due to exercise in athletes was fast but it continued for a short time, and that the increase in the sedentary people was slow but it continued for a longer period of time.
