Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to search the aesthetic quality of ecological buildings pragmatically. In the experiment which was conducted using the Lens Model method; 53 senior students from Uludag University Department of Architecture and as laypersons; 25 students studying at the Faculty of Computer Teaching and 24 students from Faculty of Turkish Literature were shown the images of 40 buildings. Besides these students;37 eco-architects who are experienced in the job(for at least 10 years) evaluated the images of 40 buildings. They were asked to rate the cognitive concepts of `liking?, `stimulation? `complexity? and `sustainability?. To find out which physical cues gave rise to these cognitive concepts, the same images were also shown to the `expert group? i.e. 14 architect academicians who were asked to evaluate each image using 40 physical cues (20 Design/Aesthetic cues and 20 Sustainability cues). The purpose of the experiment was to examine the level of similarity between senior students? and eco-architects? perceptions in the case of using architectural images. Especially in the cognitive concept of sustainability;it is hypothesized that this resemblance will be strong. In spite of that; it is hypothesized that laypersons will differ from the eco-architects and arcgitecture students in the interpretation of the images. The findings prove that the subject of sustainability can be both learnable and teachable.
