Abstract (EN)

Buildings cause environmental impacts through their life cycles. Ecological building design criteria, which appeared to decrease these impacts, aim to make designs sensitive to environmental problems, to protect the ecological balance, and to fulfill the required comfort and health conditions. These criteria may vary according to physical environmental conditions and environmental problems of the region that the building will be constructed. Therefore, the appropriate criteria for the physical environmental conditions of that region should be determined. In the context of this thesis, ecological building design criteria were determined in global scale, and applications of these criteria were described. Later on, environmental problems and physical environmental conditions have been inspected for the selected working area Ankara City located in the middle Anatolian region of Turkey, and the applicability of the ecological building design criteria in the selected area have been indentified. An ecological building was designed in Gazi University Campus, and the design was evaluated according to the suggested evaluation method.
