Mediation of work instrumentation in the impact of economic problems on emotional burnout, and the regulatory role of paternalist leadership

The aim of this research is to determine the effect of the economic problems they face on their emotional burnout and the mediating role of work instrumentality and the regulatory role of paternalistic leadership in this effect. In addition, it is to reveal whether economic difficulties, emotional burnout, instrumentality of work and paternalistic leadership levels change according to some demographic variables (gender, age, type of institution, marital status, class hours, monthly income, number of dependents, working years). Teachers, who are among the occupational groups that are most affected by economic problems, were chosen as a sample considering the importance of the profession. For this purpose, random sampling data was collected from 606 teachers working in public and private schools in Gümüşhane province, through an online questionnaire. Before proceeding to the data analysis stage, data cleaning was carried out in order to work with a clean data set. In this context, first of all, it was checked whether there were wrong or incomplete data entries. In order to test whether there are extreme values in the data set, the z-score and Mahalanobis distance were calculated. According to the results of these two values, 30 data were removed from the data set. Data were analyzed using SPSS 22 and SPSS Process Macro plugin. Correlation and regression analyzes were performed to determine the relationships between the variables. As a result of the analysis of the research data, it was found that the instrumentality of the work played a mediating role in the effect of economic distress on emotional burnout. It has been seen that paternalistic leadership does not have a regulatory role in this relationship. It is thought that the study will contribute to the researches on this subject by emphasizing the effect of economic problems on teachers' emotional burnout. The practical contribution of this study gives an idea to the administrators and decision makers of educational organizations about the methods they can use to combat emotional burnout of teachers. Although there are separate studies on the variables used in the research in the literature, there is no study that deals with these concepts in a holistic way. In this respect, the study will contribute to the literature.
