An investigation of values education elements in Ekrem Öztürk's "Kar Sicaği" and "Gönül Gözesi" poetry books

Values are accepted as universal norms that ensure the health, happiness and peace of societies, encourage socialization and protect social order. The aim of this study is to examine the poems in the poetry books "Kar Sıcağı" and "Gönül Gözesi" by educator/writer Ekrem ÖZTÜRK in terms of the root values determined by the Ministry of National Education. In addition, it is to emphasize the importance of poetry, one and the literary genres, in the transfer of root values. This study was designed according to the qualitative research method. It's a case study. With this method, which enables a detailed examination of the text or event, the poetry books "Kar Sıcağı" and "Gönül Gözesi" were examined and the value elements in the books were determined. Content analysis technique was in the analysis. The material of the research consists of poetry books written by Ekrem ÖZTÜRK. These book are called "Kar Sıcağı" and "Gönül Gözesi". A total of 236 poems in the books were examined. For the research, a list of 10 values was created based the root values determined by the Ministry of National Education Board of Education and Discipline in the Curriculum starting from 2018-2019 academic year. All poems in the books were read from beginning to end and notes were token. The poems were examined considering the root valves determined by the Ministry. A separate title was created for each value and the works with valve messages in the analyzed poems were explained and interpreted under this title. As a result of the research, value messages were detected in 84 of the 236 poems in the two books examined. In the poems examined, the values of honesty, respect and patriotism were mostly mentioned. After these values, the values of Justice, helpfulness, friendship, love, self-control, patience and responsibility were processed respectively. In the light of the analysis and evaluations, it has been concluded that poetry has a great importance in transferring root values, that poems are on important tool in transferring root values to new generations, and that books have a very rich content in terms of root values.
