Phase error analysis of axially displaced elliptical reflector antennas

Abstract (EN)

In satellite communication systems, reflector antennas have high utilization ratio due to their high directivity and gain. Reflector antennas have different structures and these structures have some advantages and disadvantages compared to each other. In reflector antenna systems, horn antennas are usually used as the feed antenna. Horn antennas are one of the most basic microwave antennas. The ease of their design and production makes horn antennas an important position in communication systems. They have good orientation due to their geometric constructions. Horn antennas have different types according to usage area and purpose. In this study, an axially displaced elliptical reflector antenna system, which is a special form of reflector antenna, is designed to operate in the Ku band of the satellite communication frequency spectrum. At first, a corrugated horn antenna as feed structure for this antenna system is designed and performed. Then the designs of reflector and subreflector structures were realized. The simulation performance results of this antenna system are compared with the actual field measurements and the similarities are examined. Finally, phase center analysis is performed for this antenna system and phase center stability is investigated by observing the variation of the phase center along the operating frequency band. These studies and measurements reveal that axially displaced elliptical reflector antenna systems are excellent for satellite communication systems.
