Abstract (EN)

In the early 20th century, the spread of industry created the concept of modern society. During the industrial period, the increase in mass production was opposed by some art communities and was a factor in the emergence of Modern Art movements. The social crisis created by the industry led to the formation of Expressionism. Expressionism, which was born as a reaction to the stagnation of the Impressionism movement and its effort to reflect what is, has left its place to the Abstract Expressionism movement due to the lack of expression as a result of the developments in the field of painting, allowing the concept of abstract to become widespread in art. While the Abstract Expressionism movement is frequently encountered in the art of painting, ceramic works have begun to be produced within the scope of Modern Art, which is called the Abstract Expressionist Ceramic Movement, under the leadership of Peter Voulkos since the 1950s. After this movement, which started with Peter Voulkos, he influenced many ceramic artists and spread Abstract Expressionism in the field of ceramics. Abstract Expressionism is a form of expression that many artists use instinctively today. In contemporary works of art, where abstract works are frequently produced, many artists produce works of expressive expression without the name of Abstract Expressionism, since they convey the subconscious or the mood they are in at that moment to the work. In this research, the effects of the emergence of Expressionism and the emergence of Abstract Expressionism after the art thoughts and movements that started with Modernism, ceramic art, were produced by the thesis researcher in the understanding of Abstract Expressionism.
