Effect of external nasal dilatator use on respiratory paramaters of patients duiring recovery period from general anesthesia

Abstract (EN)
In this study, we aimed to investigate the effects of END's on periferal oxygen saturation (SpO2), arterial carbon dioxide-oxygen (PaCO2-PaO2) values, respiratory rate and sound pressure levels of airways during the recovery period after general anesthesia. ASA -1 / II risk group, 100 patients with ages between 65 to 18 and without nasal surgery were included. In nasal dilator group (Group- E), the external nasal dilators were placed at the time of decision for the transfer of the patients from the operating room to the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU). In control group (Group -K), the patients were monitored with the same methods without END. The blood gas analysis was performed in all of the patients at the time of application of the dilator and 30 minutes after. During this period, SpO2 levels and breathing sounds' sound pressure levels from the suprasternal notch by a stethoscope as decibel (dB) were recorded. Patients, respiratory rate (RR), heart rate (HR), mean arterial pressure (MAP) records were recorded between 0st and 30th minutes at intervals of 5 minutes. There were inter-group differences obtained in the 30th minute in the PACU. These were statistically significant differences between the values of SpO2, SS, PaO2 and the value of the sound pressure level. , PaO2 and the value of sound pressure level were higher in breathright group but respiratory rate were lower. In- group comparisons were done and, a significant increase in SpO2 value in the study group; and a significant decrease in the control group in SpO2 value was observed. Whereas respiratory rate was significantly decreased in the study group but, in the control group it remained unchanged. İn blood gas analysis Carbon dioxide remains unchanged in the control group, but significantly decreased in the breathtright group. In the light of these data, we believe that, external nasal dilator use would be helpful for to improve the oxygenation and the ventilation in patients those emerging from general anesthesia.
