Examination of the series "al-Arabiyyetu'l-Mu'asira" with regard to Arabic language teaching

11 ABSTRACT The general resources for the Arabic language education in our country are text books. If we take this factor into consideration, it comes out that a research on books prepared in the Arabic language field comes out as an urgent requirement. This work, consisting on the 'introduction', 'conclusion' and three chapters, aims to bring a new point of view to the methods and approaches, in general in the foreign language education in Turkey, and particularly to guide them, intending to use the a/- 'Arabiyya al-Mu 'âsira series in this field. The 'Introduction' chapter includes the importance, aims and the field of the work. The first chapter defines the language and deals with the subjects; the foreign language education and instruction process, the foreign language education methods, and Arabic language instruction and it's current situation in our country. The second chapter, under the heading 'Text books in foreign language instruction'; dwells upon main factors and their roles on language education/instruction process, the course program, visual programs and types of visual programs, the selection of text books and their specifications, accompanying material of the text books, and the specifications an Arabic language text book should carry. The third chapter, introduces first the text book series a/- 'Arabiyya al- Mu' âsira generously. This is followed by the research of the aforesaid series, whereby proposals are made where it is seen as necessary. The comparative presentation with the four volumed series al-Arabiyya li al-Hayat, prepared by the Riyad University, which is still be used at the Gazi University Gazi Education Faculty and in many Arabic language and literature departments of our universities, is given at the end of the chapter. The 'conclusion' chapter includes a general evaluation of the whole work and the opinions and advices arising from the research.
