The thesis dealt with the concepts of the emirate and the caliphate, and how they were during the Umayyad rule in the Umayyad Caliphate, focusing on the Caliphate's nature and geographical area, which continued to expand gradually reaching the borders of China and France, on its successors and the durations of their rule, according to their chronology in rule, and on the Caliph Abdul-Malik bin Marwan, who gave alHajjaj a high place in his state. Furthermore, the thesis describes al-Hajjaj, on how he became one of the most prominent leaders and princes in the Umayyad dynasty at the time, and how his severity and cruelty suppressed many revolutions and eliminated all those who stood against the Umayyad dynasty. It also discusses the most important event in the history al-Hajjaj, which was his argument with Abdullah bin Al-Zubayr (may God be pleased with him) about the dreadful events that occurred in the Sacred House of God. The thesis also includes the most remarkable sayings, both praise and slander, about alHajjaj, by relying on reliable and sober historical sources. Additionally, it states the researcher's opinion, with all impartiality and objectivity, after an image was formed by the researcher about the person of Al-Hajjaj bin Youssef Al-Thaqafi. The thesis was concluded by mentioning several findings and recommendations reached by the researcher, through what he studied about al-Hajjaj and the historical era at that time. Keywords: Haccac b.
