IV SUMMARY Masters Thesis A STUDY ON ALGAE OF SOME SPRINGS SITUATED IN ELAZI? PROVINCE Güneş TOPRAK Fırat University Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences Department of Aquaeulture 1994, Page: 77 in this study. Algae ocerring in two springs (Dipsiz Göl and Kırk Gözeler) which are situated in Elazığ Province were investigated betueen February 1 993- January 1 994. Algal flora of the springs were cam posed predominant! y of diatoms and a total of 49 diatom taxa were determined throughout the study. Epilithic, epiphytic, epipsarnmic, epipelic and plankton communities of the springs, were inventigated separately with respect to species composition and numbers of individual species. Sgmtira spp. were found to be the most conspicuous with their high cell numbers in all the communities, followed by Coccsneis spp. and Cymbsllsspp. Diatom species showed their best growth in spring and autumn whilst they were in lower numbers in winter and summer.
