Abstract (EN)

Enuresis is unintentional, night-time urinary inontinence after age 5 when bladder control is expected to be achieved. Enuresis is the most chronic and frequent urologic problem during childhood. This is a cross-sectional study to delineate the factors affecting enuresis and enuresis in primary school children between 1st and 5th grades in Elazığ city center. Between April and June 2007, 945 boys and 943 girls, totally 1888 children were selected between 6-15 years of age in a simple random manner. A questionnaire attached to this text (attachment 3) was applied to these students. Detailed histories, physical examination and laboratory investigations were obtained from all cases. Results were evaluated with chi-square test.Enuresis incidence in the above age group which was higher in boys than girls was 18.6 % and this incidence was found to be decreased with age. It was decreased in circumcised boys and there was a reverse relationship between income status and enuresis. Enuresis decreased school success and these children were more offensive. Besides there was sleeping disorders in there children. When other independent parameters were investigated, gender, cardiac, pathology, similar family history, fecal incontinence, urinary tract infection, fluid intake before sleep were found to be statistically significant (p<0.05)In conclusion; enuresis incidence is found to be increased in our town in comparison with the literature. Certain factors like circumcision, circumcision age, epilepsy history in the family and cardiac murmur should be questioned with enuresis.
