Abstract (EN)
Clay Mineralogy and Geochemical Properties of Plıocene-Quaternay Palu Formation at the East Of Elazığ In this thesis, Palu Formation of Plio-Quaternary age was studied in the northern part of Hazar Lake, approximately 50 km south of Elazığ Province. Palu Formation has poorly sorted mud matrix, normal and reverse grade conglomerates and sandstones. Whole rocks, clay mineralogy and geochemical features of these rocks have been studied. In the study area Upper Jurassic-Lower Cretaceous Guleman Ophiolite, Senonian Elazığ Magmatites, Maastrichtian-Lower Eocene Hazar Group, Middle Eocene Mine Complex, Middle-Upper Oligocene Kırkgeçit Formation, Upper Miocene-Lower Pliocene Çaybağı Formation and Plio-Quaternary Palu Formation and Quaternary aged alluviums are present. In the scope of the study, X-ray diffraction (XRD) analyzes of whole rock and clay fractions, geochemical analysis (ICP-AES and ICP-MS) were carried out. Hacımekke and Hacısam section samples from Palu Formation were taken. Major oxide elements, trace elements and rare earth elements (NTE) are similar in the section of Hacimekke and Hacısam sections. Chondrite normalized diagrams very close to Hacımekke samples and Hacisamdere samples. The enrichment coefficient ranges from 10 to 100. The element proportions of the units are similar. According to the ratio of Cr/Th, Th/Sc, La/Sc, Co/Th, Th/Co, Eu/Eu* and Th/Co all three rock groups resemble andesites rather than ophiolites and granites. According to the log (SiO2/Al2O3) versus log (Fe2O3/K2O) ratio, it can be seen that the samples fall mostly into the Fe-rich shale area. Th/Co versus Th/Sc versus Eu/Eu* versus Th/Co versus La/Sc. In the La-Th-Sc triangle diagram, the samples are basically between the acidic rock composition and do not fall into the PAAS. The reason for this PAAS s continental and has a more acidic character. According to the La-Sc-Th and Th-Sc-Zr/10 diagrams, the samples fall into the oceanic island arc. Key Words: Elazığ, Palu Formation, X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Geochemical Analysis
